Mexico Travel Insurance

Get comprehensive cover for your holiday to Mexico

With its mix of palm-fringed beaches, ancient Aztec ruins and buzzing cities, Mexico is a melting pot that offers something truly special for every kind of traveller. And thanks to its rich blend of Mesoamerican, Spanish and contemporary cultures, the country’s expansive history is never far from view.

Vibrancy is the word for this place: from its annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations to its spicy cuisine, there’s nothing mundane about Mexico. Even alongside its usual touchstones (tacos, tequila, Frida Kahlo etc.), there’s a treasure-trove of lesser-known (yet unquestionably unique) experiences waiting to be unlocked.

Why do I need travel insurance for Mexico?

Whether you’re planning to soak up some culture in one of Mexico City’s many museums, visit the ancient Teotihuacán pyramids or relax on the beaches of Cancún, you’ll need to take out some travel insurance before you go.

Yes, it’s not as exciting as planning your itinerary, but getting coverage for your trip is just as (if not more!) important. Hurricanes and tropical storms can affect the Yucatan Peninsula, the Gulf Coast and the Pacific Coast (hurricane season usually lasts from the beginning of June until the end of November). As such, you may need to cancel or amend your holiday if there’s been a surge of bad weather, or if your flights have been affected.

For tourists and non-permanent residents, Mexico doesn’t provide free healthcare. As such, travellers are expected to pay for their own treatments (which can be very expensive!). Our policies can help cover many medical and/or dental costs, should you need emergency care whilst you’re away.

And whilst the news headlines might have everyone outside of the country assuming the worst when it comes to safety, the reality is quite different. Of course, there’s no guarantee, but the majority of violence tends to surround anyone directly involved with Mexico’s drug trade. A bigger threat to tourists is pickpocketing. If you’re worried about your possessions being stolen, our Silver, Gold and Diamond Plans include coverage of personal items against theft or loss. For more information, visit our gadget and personal possessions travel insurance page.

What’s covered?

From our cheapest Economy Plan to our most comprehensive Diamond Plan, you can fully enjoy your holiday knowing that you have a good level of cover.

As we already mentioned, Cover-More can assist you with medical and/or dental costs should you need to access those services whilst you’re away. We also offer 24/7 emergency assistance to every one of our customers. So, whether you need help finding the nearest doctor or you’ve lost your travel documents, you’ll be able to contact our team for professional help and advice.

And should you incur additional costs due to cancellation or amendment, we can help out with that too.

With our 14-day cooling off period, you’ll also be eligible for a full refund if you need to cancel your policy. As long as you haven’t set off or made a claim within that time, you’ll get your money back.

What about cover for adventure sports in Mexico?

If you’re looking for a side of adventure to go with those tacos, it’s certainly easy to find in Mexico. Planning to go snorkelling in Cancún? Skydiving in Ixtapa? Climbing Pico de Orizaba? You’ll need to make sure your travel insurance policy covers that!

Here at Cover-More UK, we offer coverage for a range of sports and leisure activities on every one of our plans. Some activities are only covered on our Gold and Diamond Plans though, so take a look at our travel insurance guide to find out which policy is right for you before booking.
