Existing Medical Conditions -
(Yours Or Your Travelling Companion’s)

This policy does not automatically cover all existing medical conditions.

The term “Existing Medical Conditions” has a special meaning.

“Existing Medical Condition” means
a. any physical defect, condition, illness or disease for which treatment, medication or advice (including investigation) has been received or prescribed by a medical or dental advisor in the 90 days prior to the issue of the policy, or the date the Trip is booked, whichever occurs last; or
b. any chronic or ongoing (whichever chronic or otherwise) medical or dental condition, illness or disease medically documented prior to the issue of the Policy, or the date the Trip is booked, whichever occurs last.

Based on the special meaning, the following are 3 examples of Existing Medical Conditions:

1. If you have seen a doctor in the 90 days prior to the issue of the policy.
2. If you have taken medication for any condition in the 90 days prior to the issue of the policy.
3. A chronic or ongoing condition medically documented prior to the issue of the policy.

If you or your travelling companion/s have an existing medical condition you should read on.

Medical Warranty

We can only proceed to do a self assessment or medical screening for conditions if You, Your travelling companion and anyone else upon whose health your booking depends:
1. are not travelling against medical advice;
2. are not travelling to receive medical advice or treatment;
3. are not on a hospital waiting list waiting for treatment or investigation;
4. are not aware of any UNDIAGNOSED conditions or symptoms that may require attention or investigation in the future; or
5. have not been given a terminal diagnosis.

“Self Assessment” Existing Medical Conditions

Subject to certain requirements this policy automatically covers many Existing Medical Conditions, if they are suffered in isolation. This means the Existing Medical Condition exclusion does not apply to this condition in these circumstances (therefore, no application for extra cover is required).

For a list of these automatically covered Existing Medical Conditions please see below. Once activated, this means the Existing Medical Condition exclusion does not apply in the stated circumstances.

If You have more than one condition listed or Your condition is not listed You must complete a medical screening by contacting us on 01245 272 428.

In the following, references to time are applied to the Relevant Time.

Relevant Time in respect of:
a. Single Trip policies means the time of issue of the policy.
b. Annual Multi-Trip policies means the first time at which any part of the relevant Trip is paid for or the time at which the policy is issued, whichever occurs last.

“Self Assessment” Existing Medical Conditions
Asthma If no attack requiring treatment by a medical practitioner in the last 12 months.

Cataracts If you have no ongoing complications, are not on a waiting list for an operation and have not been operated on in the last 30 days.

Diabetes – Non Insulin Dependant If you were diagnosed over 12 months ago and have not had any complications in the last 12 months. You must also have a Blood Sugar Level reading between 4 and 10.

Ear Grommets With no current infection

Epilepsy If there are no underlying medical conditions and you have not required treatment by a medical practitioner for a seizure in the last 2 years.

Gastric Reflux If the condition does not relate to another underlying diagnosis (i.e. hernia/Gastric ulcer)

Gout If the gout has remained stable for more than 6 months

Hiatus Hernia If no surgery is planned

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) If you are only on one medication, which has not been changed (including dosage) in the last six months and you have not been hospitalised in the last 12 months.

High Cholesterol (Hypercholesterolaemia) If you have no known heart conditions.

Hip Replacement If performed more than 6 months ago and less than 10 years ago.

Menopause Provided you do not suffer from Osteoporosis.

Peptic Ulcer If condition has remained stable for more than 6 months.

Underactive Thyroid ( Hypothyroidism) If not as a result of a tumour.

Other Existing Medical Conditions (extra cost if approved)

If you wish to be covered for a condition that is not automatically covered please complete a medical screening by contacting Cover-More on 01245 272 428.

Please note the medical screening operates on an ‘all or nothing basis’. That is, if you have:
1. high blood pressure
2. high cholesterol
3. arthritis
4. angina
5. had a heart attack

you must declare all 5 medical conditions to us. You cannot cover some conditions and not others. Failure to make a full declaration may mean that we will not pay a claim.

Conditions Which Cannot Be Covered

No cover can be provided under any section for the following:
· Anxiety or depression
· Known back or neck conditions
· Conditions for which You are travelling to seek medical treatment or review
· If you are travelling against medical advice
· Conditions for which You are on a hospital waiting list for treatment or investigation
· If You have a terminal diagnosis
· Conditions related to the things listed in exclusion 19 on page 17 of the Policy Wording

Pregnancy

If You are aware of Your pregnancy at the time of issue of the policy, You must apply for cover if either of the following apply:
1. there have been complications with this or any previous pregnancy, or
2. the conception was medically assisted.

Regardless of whether or not You have to apply, the following restrictions apply to pregnancies:
- Cover is only provided for unexpected serious pregnancy complications which occur during or before the 26th week of the pregnancy.
- No cover is provided for childbirth or the health of a newborn child after the 26th week of the pregnancy*.

* Expectant mothers should therefore consider whether they travel under this policy, particularly beyond the 20th week of the pregnancy.
